Biking from Grutschalp to Wengen {Route 450}

Bike shop man remembered us as one of his childhood friends from England was also named David Chan. He showed us a map, take the gondola across the street from the Lauterbrunnen train station to Grutschalp, ride across to Wengen, trail along the train tracks, very easy. Then take the gondola back down at Wengen, ride back along the waterfalls to hotel.

Bought our tickets to the gondola after leaving the bikes at the designated elevator drop off  - only we forgot to tell the agent we had to buy tickets for the bikes “velo”, but he knew because he saw our helmets.  When we exited the gondola with out bikes, the men told us to carry our bikes up the stairs  what?.. e-bikes are heavy, David had to help me.

It was a beautiful ride, mainly because we were so high up and close to the mountains we’d seen from different angles below.  So many people had told us to do the Wengen walk (or ride), & now I know why it’s so HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!  Was somewhat afraid to get on & off the bike but was dying to take pictures but didn’t want to risk starting & stopping (plus David was royally annoyed at my constant picture taking  ðŸ˜ƒðŸ˜ƒðŸ˜ƒðŸ˜ƒðŸ˜ƒ  Was honestly one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been, without pictures the memory of blue skies & puffy clouds along the mountains so close you can just about touch them, will always be in my memory.

We had to stop quite often to open & close gates but David did most of that.  Learned it was to keep the cows in.  We took the first train we saw and later learned we were supposed to cycle a bit further to the gondola (instead of taking the train back to Grutschalp, & return down the same gondola). Also learned we took a different trail (scenic trail) versus what the bike guy recommended.  Turned out much more “in the mountain” versus right along the train tracks

Bike ride was about 40 minutes of exhilaration, natural wonder, deep breathes of fresh clean air & smiles. Want to do it again!  Who’s with me?

Here’s the place to get the gondola:

There’s a special machine that lifts the bikes onto the gondola & train

Just riding the gondola up the mountain was beautiful
