Salt Cathedral, Bogota Colombia 11.16

I asked a co-worker for advice on where to go.  He gave a ton of ideas then suggested we go together for a weekend get-away.  It was somewhat awkward, but I desperately wanted to travel with a local. It was the best decision I made.  Saturday morning, my co-worker Andres, his wife Angelica and their beautiful baby son Lorenzo (one year old) picked us up at the hotel.  What an odd bunch, a young couple/baby + me, David and 23 year old Jake.  We got along fabulously!

We drove to Vila de Levya - about a 4 hour ride outside of Bogota.  We stopped at the Salt Cathedral.  I had no idea what to expect, but truly-it was a cathedral built in to the salt mines, under ground.  No longer a working mine, miners from the old days built this church to pray and protect them.  It had a dark, spiritual, awesome feel.

It was so serene inside, dark but well lit statues & monuments.

We are looking down from this view.
Later on we are down on ground level

Can you see me in-between the Cross and marble carving?

You had to walk a bit to get down there - it was dark but relaxing.  There were 2 different ways up, one a few flights of steps, the other, the winding path we took down.  David and Jake took the steps.
