Met up with some friends at an amazing restaurant hidden in a bookstore at the Iguetimi Mall called Manioca. On a previous trip there I found a love for hearts of palm (palmitos). Once I bought a jar of fresh hearts of palm to bring home and the airport security took it & threw it away. Here they had a very inventive dish, hearts of palm alfredo. You know when they take zucchini and cut it up into strips for "phony spaghetti"? This was similar. How ingenious. Boy was it good! The hearts of palm were still raw, so very crunchy.
Coincidentally I was there when they voted to impeach the President Duma. Historic time. There was a spontaneous protest on the highway coming back from the dinner, but luckily we didn't have any trouble that night, or the next day going to the airport. Here's a screen shot from the morning news show on the parliamentary vote.
