Last weekend I swam in a .8 mile lake swim in the Poconos. Rarely do you have a chance to swim in the middle of the lake, free, from one side to another. I usually take my time to enjoy the beauty of the lake, feel the water on my arms and face, dive straight down like I were a dolphin kissing the water. I also did the backstroke with my eyes clothes. Only this time I felt like I was in a pharmaceutical commercial, where the older woman swims in the middle of the lake by herself, or with a dog (who does that?).
My time was 38:50 -- a personal best. Last time I think I was closer to 50:00. After all it is a race. But I refuse to race through the lake, or life for that matter. Stop and enjoy the beauty. Or in this case, the serenity of the water.
