I felt the wind go through my hair and knew there was no turning back. I want a monster serve. Theoretically, if you have the ball in your hand, you are starting and should win the point. Not so with me. I have a patsy wimpy serve.
I lost a match at the Corporate Tennis league to a man, probably in his late 50's, 6-3, 6-1. He had a great serve.
I asked him to critique my serve. He said I wasn't starting far enough behind to create velocity when whipping my arm around to meet the ball.
So I tried it a few times. Don't be afraid to whack the ball he said. So I did. It felt great. Let me try again, and again and again and again. I felt the velocity the larger space created by bringing my arm all the way back before making contact. I practiced whacking the ball so hard, not necessarily getting it in the box.
When I did, I felt the wind go through my hair and knew there was no turning back. I am destined to have a monster serve. [when?]
