Ouarzazate: Ait Ben Addou

We drove through these winding mountains to Ait Ben Addou world heritage site for neighborhoods built into the mountains.  The scenery is so beautiful here many movies including Lawrence of Arabia, Jewel of the Nike, Gladiator were filmed here.  One reason this is a world heritage site is because many cultures lived together (Muslims, Jews, Christians) in one Kasbah

This was an important stop for caravans carrying salt through the Sahara

We climbed up to the top (well, maybe 3/4 of the way), looking into all the little shops and homes along the way

We went into a man’s home who prides himself on being an extra in 5 movies.  We dressed up in some costumes and had some fun. The tour guide told us few families still lived there, most moved to the new kasbahs across the street

We continued on to our luxurious Lodge: L’MA
Douar El Khamssa, Skoura which only had 10 rooms, beautiful grounds with a pool, area for rescued goats, horses, roosters, & little sanctuary areas where you could sit under the trees and read.

Look at this room!  A shame we just spent the night.

Wanted to buy one of these ceiling lights to bring home.

Couldn’t resist ordering a rose & enjoying the beautiful gardens (along w the nuts & dried Lima beans, olives)

Weren’t that hungry but everything came family style.

This was the best tangine of the trip!
Saw a million stars walking back to our room after dinner. We were truly in the middle of nowhere & it was great.
Hotel in the middle of the oasis—didn’t know oasis meant low green area in the dessert  “Midnight at the oasis…..๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽต๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽถ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽผ๐ŸŽผ
