Boarded the MS Nordkapp Hurtigruten ship at about 11:30 am & immediately attended the information session. Unlike the other cruise I was on, they did not make you go outside to try on your life vest, talk about safety, etc, but showed you a video of what is supposed to happen. They also didn't x-ray your luggage and handbags so I was mad that I left 1/2 a bottle of nice white wine in the hotel.
At 4 pm at the first port there was a quick walk to the Witch Burning site and fortress. Seven minutes to the fortress. Roads were 100% icy. That will be my memory forever - 100% snow covered (thin layer) roads and ICY! I was totally unprepared with my waterproof Italian flat booties.
We went to a grocery store while all the passengers and old ladies strutted by me to the fortress. Bought a pair of rubber, slip on cleats- very good. Must be what the locals use.
Surprise for dinner: Reindeer (they even showed a picture of a deer on the menu). Friend refused to eat it.
