Well, who else but us would go to the Loire Valley, beautiful vineyards in the dead of winter!!!! Upside: no tourists. We loved it. I found Miriam from Trip Advisor. We were supposed to go in October but cancelled. Miriam honored our deposit when we re-booked for January--very nice of her!
We sampled beautiful wines and I discovered sparkling Vouvrey! To my dismay, you cannot ship cases back to the US. (boo).
We learned to smell the bouquet, then swirl in your mouth, leave the wine in your mouth, then actually chew the wine! Delicious! We then learned how to get the sediment out of the wine. Its stored in the cellars tilted down and has to be turned every few days to get the sediment to flow to the neck of the bottle. The neck of the bottle is then frozen and sucked out by this machine. How ingenious!
We sampled all these wines & paired them with foods. |

We love traveling off season like this. Get such good deals and no tourists as you say. Only downside is sometimes the places you want to visit are not open this time of year.
I know and there were some rooms in the castles and also some restaurants we wanted to go to that had the week after New Years off!
