That's where we are walking to; Peter Paul Fortress across the icy river. See the reflection in the water. |
After leaving our hotel (Solo Hotel), right off Nietvsky Prospect, we walked for about 45 minutes along the river. Goal was to walk to the bridge, cross over, and wellah! -- there's the big Peter & Paul Fortress. Took a long time and I was tired. Whole time I could see the Fortress in sight. It wasn't until we sat down in the restaurant after, right along the river, did I realize how far we walked & how beautiful the street that we walked on was. I looked up while eating and saw this couple walk outside the restaurant along the river. Look across at the beautiful buildings, all the same height. Couldn't see them with their vivid colors, stately manor because we walked right under them.
After lunch we walked along the opposite side. That's the Hermitage across. So icy was afraid of falling the whole time, I'm such an old lady. |

Hotel in St. Petersburg:
Solo Hotel
5 Rubinshteina str, St. Petersburg, Russia
because of the favorable exchange rate, one night was only $35 US dollars! I paid half price to stay there til 11:30pm (1/2 day), so we could change in the room before boarding the train.
Conveniently located, nice and clean.
