Power is back although we have no TV or Internet.
Like everyone else in NJ we ignored the weather forecasts,... who has snowstorms in October? Saturday morning we went to Flushing to visit David's mother in Flushing as she had a pacemaker inserted, but that's another story. When we left it was raining/snowing ...............when we returned, everything was fine until we got off the highway at Berkeley Heights. Mayhem.......stalled out cars, ramps clogged. Mountain Ave was a shambles, see left picture above. Long traffic lines due to all the downed tree's and cars swerving around them.
We lost half of our Japanese Maple in the front yard (see before and after pix above). If I were smart I would have gone outside and brushed the snow off the branches--but how did I know the weight of the snow would snap one branch off?
We slept in the living room and boiled water all night to keep warm. It was 53 degree's in the house. Luckily we have a gas stove and hot water heater/flushing water, so we were better off compared to others. David couldn't take it so we stayed in a disgusting Howard Johnson's on Route 22 on Monday night. To my great surprise, our power was back Tuesday morning when I walked in the house at 7:30.
Yay! Our heat gives off our basement "musty" smell. As soon as I walked in I smelled it and was never so happy to smell that basement smell as ever before. We take so much for granted!!!!!

Yeah, makes you realize how lucky we are. Some people live like this all the time. We didn't lose any power, but a lot of our neighboring towns did. Glad yours is back! Take care,
Claudia
