Started at the Musee d’Orsay. I smiled with amazement when I saw the real Rembrandt painting that I have hanging in my bedroom. I have half of the pair – couples dancing (city). I didn’t know the paintings were meant to be displayed together (city vs country dancers). Learned the history through the audio tour. I was lucky I was there when it wasn’t crowded.
Took the metro to Cafe le Flore a Cafe recommended by a friend who is from Paris. I sat there for two hours and watched the world go by. Walked to La Bon Marche, as I wanted to visit a department store but found nothing so I took the Metro to Printemps and found nothing there either. Paris is such a great walking city and the weather was great.
For dinner I went to a great Bistro, Allard Bistro but took the Metro to Odeon instead of St. Michel. I got a little frantic as I couldn’t find it so I finally went in to a liquor store and a nice Chinese lady looked it up on the internet for me and told me the way. What a great dinner! I couldn’t read the French menu and the waiter didn’t speak English but I love duck and know its “canard” but didn’t know what “savauge” meant. Apparently it meant wild as the waiter acted out a hunting scene. Boom, boom, boom in the air*. It was so good, I used my hands when no one was looking - the meat was a dark red color. Certainly must have been wild. I love eating new foods (and eating period). I also discovered Sancere on this trip, love it and had buttery, buttery escargot.
