Vienna Itinerary & Albertina Museum

A highlight of Vienna is the Albertina museum.  Here's some pictures + our 3 day Vienna itinerary

Big Fish eat little fish. Painting done in the 1556 and depicts man eating the lower class man. Even back then they were aware of human behaviors, class, social norms. This was the highlight of the museum for me—-very odd social commentary from the 1500s.  Artist: Pieter Bruegel Der Altere

I 💗 Monet.  Impressionist exhibit arranged in ~12 rooms in a circle leading you back to where you started.  Poor hubby didn't realize he saw the Waterlilies already and stood there reading the caption and admiring the painting again.   Had to pull him out of there.

Edgar Munch. Madonna & Child.  Chilling the painter notes embryo and sperm on side of painting representing women’s responsibility/suffering. 1895
This is a Picasso. I’m not fond of his work, but this I like (blue period.  Whatever that means)

Day 1

Aida Cafe (famous for apple strudel) but the Sacher torte was terrible (dry, no raspberry jam), coffee was great though, typical Viennese coffee

GURU Free Walking Tour--highly reco

Sisi Museum (also known as Hopsburg museum)

Cafe Tirolerhof-stumbled in for lunch but then realized it was a coffee house & should have tried sacher torte here. Instead I had the “vermicelli” we have here in SUI, on this menu translated to “spaghetti chestnut tart” — a Vienna classic

nap (Due to not being able to sleep in the uncomfortable night train )

Vienna Symphony Orchestra [**highlight**] at Musikverin symphony house

Day 2

Albertina Museum

bus to weiner schnitzel (Figelmuller)-waited in line, make a reservation or go off hours

Mozart House

Tram Home

Spoke to Shirl, bummed to not meet my NYU BFF in Innsbruck due to Munich airport strike so next best thing, FaceTime!

Day 3

OBB ticket office to exchange ticket to Zurich (instead of Innsbruck).  Relieved that we changed to a 9:30 train (12 hours straight) to Morges 😖

train to Ecco shoe store where I saw a pair of shoes I really wanted but they didn't have in my size

walked along the shopping street (pedestrian st)

Lunch at Ilona Stuberl (Austria goulash).  Was just ok but a small quaint restaurant

stumbled into church where all people sitting there are just downloading/editing their pix

took the bus for a break/sightsee but ended up in the same place so walked back to hotel (bus goes in a loop)

Kris Church- Just a few blocks away from our hotel, they let me in 4 euros instead of 5 since I didn’t have enough cash. In hindsight I wish we booked a music concert here since it was so close to our hotel

walked back to get the Sacher torte at L. Heifer, 2 blocks away from the “original” Sacher Torte tore where tourists were buying tortes like hotcakes
