Driving to Florence on the Fi Pi Li was fine--until we got there. Drove around the city for about an hour until I finally said, we're calling the hotel................they came and got us...fed up...small winding streets. In Florence there are restricted zones where you cannot drive--and if you do -- you get a big ticket. The garage man drove our rental car to the garage while we checked in. We raced to Avis for the 4:30 deadline and made it by 5 minutes---quite stressful. We didn't refill the gas, God knows how much it'll cost.
Our hotel had its own tower so we climbed about 5 flights up an had a gorgeous view---why climb to the top of the Duomo if you can see everything from the top of your hotel---with a glass of Brunello to boot!
