How do you know if a friend is a true friend?

How do you know if a friend is true? You don't....until you do.

Sometimes you know because of a lifetime of friendship.
Sometimes its a feeling that you know.
Sometimes you just meet someone and you know they will be your friend for life.

Real friends call you up out of the blue, or because they heard something, and you yak and yak on the phone as if you'd just seen them yesterday. Even though you haven't seen them in two years.

A true friend offers your child an opportunity. And really means it.

A true friend buys you your favorite wine.

A true fried sticks up for you through thick and thin.

A true friend confronts you, pushes you and encourages you.

Some true friends send you those annoying chain emails, or jokes you really don't find funny. But you open them anyway because they are from your friend.

A real friend knows how you feel about your kids getting in to college, fights with your husband, excitement for vacation, about stupid little things like cutting the grass or the right inch heel.

People say a true friend will do anything for you. Ofcourse they will, but maybe you shouldn't ask them or expect them to. After all, they have their own lives too. But you would do the same for them, right?

Its wonderful to have so many friends, and to share different parts of your life with each one of them. I have my NYU friends, my Stony Brook friends, my advertising friends, my tennis friends, my sister friend, my cousins and Auntie friends + more. I wonder if there is a title in the Guinness Book of World Records for person with most friends/most wonderful friends). I think it would be me.
