Colmar France Christmas + Basel 12.22

Colmar France is a winter wonderland full of dory book Christmas scenes. About. 3 hour train ride north of us just over the French border, near the German side of Switzerland. 

Train from Basel to Colmar cancelled on way there due to freezing tracks.  Train returning also cancelled due to French rail workers strike + snow 😒

Had a hat like this as a girl.  Pom Poms and all

 

Oh and the food!

Ate this.  Sauerkraut not vinegary but very nice with spaetzli

First time I’ve seen hot White wine. Vin chaud blanc 

Saw a man buy 5 tubs of this fresh soft cheese. So had to buy one too. Fresh cheese curds supposed to eat w sugar. 

BEFORE--bought this at a butcher stand and since we had an apt w oven!

AFTER

Son said it was like "yuk beng" pie.  100% ground pork inside

Next up, Basel! 2 1/2 hour walking tour in 24° weather. Christmas markets and scenery were just beautiful in this Pharma town I've heard so much about.  Its the home of Bayer and Roche

Biggest surprise! We went for Wiener schnitzel and got a show too!  Stadt Keller restaurant:    Schnitzel recommended by a friend
