Mother-of-the-Groom Before & After

By now most of you have heard stories of the fairy-tale wedding but in the spirit of this blog, let me tell you about the travel --getting home was a Swiss adventure.

Due to Covid the Geneva-Newark flight is cancelled but will restart in July (of course we travelled in June).  Booked a 10:10am flight from Zurich which is a 2 1/2 hour train ride from us.  Forget about getting up at 4am for a 5am train.  Did a lot of research and the best airport hotel to the Zurich Radisson Blu.  Also the most expensive due to its location right in the airport but well worth it.  Its in a complex called "The Circle" which reminds me of The Columbus Circle shops (hmmm--are they related since they are both called "Circle"?).

We are lucky-we live in a town on an express train line so hopped on a 1:30 and was in Zurich in time to have dinner with Margie's friend Alexandra.

So excited to see the beautiful scenery, lakes & mountain villages.  Only one thing we didn't count on:  train sickness.  Thank God we didn't get sick ---just dizzy.  Now I know what the description " tilting train "which was next to "low occupancy, family zone area etc" means.

Suitcase filled with 4 bottles of French champagne

We couldn't sit together because our luggage was too big

Was so excited to go home, ah no need to pack a toothbrush or nightgown or slippers.  Shoooot forgot I'd need these things in the hotel for the night and thankfully the hotel had most------no I didn't ask them for a nightgown.  👚

Brought these home as souvenirs for friends & family & myself

Due to Covid, only guests can eat in hotel restaurants so Alexandra couldn't eat in our hotel restaurant.  We met in the hotel lobby and walked all around the Circle.  Half of the restaurants were closed due to Covid and the ones that were open had private parties.  A shame, some spectacular rooftop restaurants and one beautiful famous blue bar was open but only served snacks.  Popcorn and potato chips weren't going to do it for us.  Forty-five minutes later we ended up back at our hotel restaurant and marched right up to a table.

Got to sample white Merlot (I'd never heard of that have you?) and learned how to tip (if you wish) by rounding up with cash directly to the waitress.

Only 1 other guy in the 2nd part of Biz Class cabin.
David picked these seats to keep the germs away

Coming back our flight landed  at 8am so we hopped directly on the train.  Bright sunshine and jetlag, tried not to look out the window for fear of getting dizzy.  Realized we had been wearing masks for 12+ hours which was really no fun.  Didn't realize how valuable it was to have that night in the Zurich hotel to break up the mask wearing.  Btw, flight from EWR to Zurich was packed.  Business class 100% full and it looked like economy full too.  Two babies cried the whole way home.

Suitcases coming back were equally as heavy as going due to all the pots/pans/floor mats, etc. etc. I bought.  Walked the 3 blocks to the apartment, opened the door and said "Glad I'm home".  Yes I consider Switzerland my home.
