Tram # 13 or 17 goes there -- a tram we hadn't taken before. We typically took the 2, 5 or 7 to see the sights. I spotted tram 13 & 17 further down to the right as David looked on the platform we usually waited on. Come one David, its down there--I start to run there as I see a 13 leaving. Suddenly I turn around and he is gone. I peak out from behind a different tram (not willing to get run over). I scream out, "Daaavid, Daviiid". Nothing.
I wait and wonder, what the hell just happened? Did he vanish in to thin air? Get kidnapped? Go home? I'm fuming, waiting, looking.. Where the hell are you?
I realize he is not there. I have better things to do than wait by myself on a train platform. I call him and leave a message, "Where the f--- are you?".
He texts me he is on the 13 tram. I want to kill him. We text back and forth a bonanza of expletives and I want to find an international divorce lawyer. Who leaves their wife on the platform? I take the next 17 and follow the directions the concierge gives. I get off and don't see him............Oh God, but there he is at the back. Grumble grumble, why would you get on a tram without me????
We walk three blocks to the restaurant. He orders a beer, I order white wine. Pictures of mothers all over the walls (Mom's good down home cooking). We share the special "Dutch Ricedish" which is a sampler of three famous dutch dishes:
- Suddervlees - typical Dutch...granny’s recipe for stewed beef (braised steak),onion flavor
Its in the red pot on the left - Hotchpotch - the real Dutch “stamppot ” of mashed potatoes with vegetables
- Hachée - hashed meat...also Dutch, served with boiled potatoes & red cabbage
Look at all the little pots |
