It Happened

3/12/16 Saturday

It happened!  I saw it!  The forecast was "GO".  We found an app called Northern Lights which predicts when the Northern Lights are most visible due to weather.  We were in Hammerfest or Bodo or Tromso as the below shows, I kept checking the app based on where the boat was on the map.

Stars aligned, literally...We'd come back from the Fishing Village, crescent moon in the sky, good omen.  During dinner with people from the tour, they announced the Northern Lights were out!  Yay!  Run!  What should I do?  I was eating the most delicious cod I've ever eaten .  I excused myself and left David with Val from Cornwall who we met on the tour.

Ran to deck 7, saw some whisps like the first night - translucent jellyfish horizontal streaks, cloud colored.  Have rarely seen so many stars in the black black night.  No Northern Lights.  Well, if I didn't see the NL, that would be ok -- life is good, enjoying the cruise.  Went inside.  David getting ready to go out and test night camera app.  Ah, nothing he said!!!

I stayed out longer, calculating what time I may be able to see them based on the app.  It was just around 10, and 6 pm - 10 pm was the peak good time to see them.

A few streaks - then YES, along the left side of the boat.  Horizontal streak with some green.  I walked back and forth, sat in a deck chair -- then there it was in the back of the boat.  It was green.  It wasn't wishful thinking, I saw it, I SAW IT!!!  For one minute.  Should I run back and get David?  I was so happy I saw it.

This is what it looked like.  A kite with green at the bottom- saw it for 60 seconds. Tried to write down my memories as soon as possible.

No pictures, just a memory to last a lifetime.
