What would you give to turn back the hands of time? To feel your mother’s hands on your face, to kiss her soft, mushy cheeks, to smell her skin (& feet, sorry inside joke)?
I’d give anything but this is a trick question because you cannot turn back the hands of time. But you can do other things, like raid her recipe’s and pots and pans. As son #2 prepares for college he needs pots and pans and to furnish an apartment. My dad said to “look downstairs, I have plenty of pots and pans”. So down and I went and raided his shelves. Not for son #2, but for me.
Here is the heavy pot you can brown and then braise a whole big chicken in, and here is the pot we made rice in every day (ok, maybe not this one, but one that looks the same but is one size smaller). Not quite antiques, but heavy stainless steel pots which are now hard to find. Here’s the pot we made spaghetti sauce in. I never have a large serving tray to use for Christmas, hurray, now I have a large circular one with rose petals from my childhood. Shopping in my dad’s laundry room for our childhood pots & pans. Doesn’t get any closer.
Oh yes, I found two glass beer mugs and 2 large plates (like for making apple pie) for my son to take to college. What would you give to advance the hands of time? I don’t know.
