We loved climbing to the top of the Duomo in the afternoon. We saw it during our morning tour and learned the history. Felt like a kid in a candy store running around the roof and saying, take my picture "here, there, everywhere"!
Next Galleria Emmanuel Vittorio, the famous La Scala (regretted not looking in to getting Opera tickets earlier) and The Last Supper. Really had no interest in seeing the Last Supper--heard you had to get tickets months in advance. But since it was part of the tour-it ended up being fantastic. Its worth it to pay for a tour so you can learn the history and background. You walk in to a sealed room, only 15 people at a time. You walk through a chamber right out of Get Smart where your clothes/body are purified from the pollution in order to protect the painting. Its in a monastery and the monks actually ruined part of the painting in order to enlarge a door. There was a special feeling in the air, you knew you were in the presence of something special.
I'm actually trying to cut and paste a pix of The Last Supper here now, but can't figure out how to.
