Boston Chinatown 10.18.08

As someone who grew up chanting, "Boston sucks, Boston sucks, Boston sucks, Boston sucks", (& you know who I mean), I find it hard to believe how much I relish in going there.

One of the hidden surprises in visiting Gary at Parents Weekend was having dim sum in Boston's Chinatown. All of a 12 block radius and $10 or $15 to park. The good news---good old fashioned Cantonese people and Cantonese food. By some miracle David Googled Chinatown Dim Sum and up came China Pearl--and there we went!!!!

We were number 78 in a line of about 20 minutes. Much to my surprise, a dumpling we've never eaten. It was a vegetarian one (ji). One we would have gotten for Jake (no seafood, all veggies) but he wasn't there. We tried it anyway (what didn't we try?). Gary took one bite and spit it out-or more or less gave it to me. It was taro, steamed in dumpling. Can you imagine a dumpling I've never had???? So good.

All the dumplings were like our old fashioned yum cha. We didn't hold back on ordering. We ordered seafood fried noodles since Jake wasn't there (& were so excited to eat it--but it wasn't good so reminded us of how much we missed Jake).

Tab: $47.00 pretty good with leftovers to take home ++ the bakery we found with good gai yerng bow and gai mei bow and other wu tow gao stuff and don tat + everything else we could buy.

The night before we had dinner at the noodle shop we visited on our very first visit to BU with Shirley Hom. How ironic that this place was one block away from Gary's dorm.... and oh so good. Especially right before the BU Men's Hockey game which they won 5-2. Apparently Asians play alot of hockey--Brendan Yip scored for BU and another Chinese player scored for Merrimack. There was another player from Skillman NJ which was hilarious.

After the second period, Gary just got up and left. He said he had to go.......Gee, so much for ditching your parents after a 5 hour drive up. Nevertheless we still loved every moment of seeing you............and having dim sum.

:)
