St. Moritz & The Fish Soup

Taking advantage of our SBB 20 day holiday all day discount pass we decided to go to St Moritz, ski resort of the rich & famous (like us 🫢) on spur of the moment.

The route travelled along the same route as the famous Bernina Express. Here’s the aqueduct you always see in ads. Another lady & I were like kids in candy stores as we ran from one side to the next, taking pictures &  ooohing and ahhhhing at the gorgeous mountains.
David sits next to me (instead of across) & pulls out leftover fish, neatly packed in a container from yesterday. Why on earth would you bring fish on a train?  10 minutes later with a European accent I hear the man behind us say “I smell fish soup”.  We can’t contain our laughter and hunch over bursting with giggles.

Next day we wake up early to catch the cable car to the top, Piz Nair. A beautiful sight as we see bikers & hikers begin the descent down.

Ram is the symbol of the Engadin mountains (or is this a goat?)

Only 1 problem, the cable car brakes are broken. We get excited when the man says they may send a helicopter taxi, but instead we are stuck up there for 2+ hours. I’ve had cancelled planes before due to mechanical failure but never a cable car (gondola). The restaurant gives us free tea, & just when I’m getting annoyed that we are wasting time up there missing out on hiking and other sights I look out and realize I’m on the top of the world and should be marveling in the wonder of the beauty. I take a deep breath, order a glass of white Lugano & pasta with basil.

Is that a cloud or snow in the middle?  Can’t stop staring & trying to take the perfect pix.

Gondola to the rescue!

Instead of taking the same cable car down leg #2 we take the ski lift from Corviglia to Marguns. We see a lady quickly hop off, swipe her pass & hop back on the lift to go back down and we do the same! Like a kid in a Disney ride. So beautiful.

We then take the final cable car down to Celerina & find the bus back to St Moritz.

HOTEL: Crystal
Centrally located by the cable cars in the center of town (Gucci, Valentino, etc) 😀

BTW if you stay in any hotel in St Moritz for 2 nights they give you the lift/cable car & bus passes for free (70 value).

We wake up early on our last day to get a quick bike ride before the 5 1/2 hour train ride home

Even prettier without all the snow. LOL fish on a train.
