Years ago, let history repeat itself

Years ago we took away my Grandmother's apartment keys.  She'd go outside to buy cigarettes & we were afraid she'd get lost -->  better yet, she didn't need cigarettes at 95.  We told her our Uncle Albert (her son) borrowed her keys and forgot to bring them back.  She was so mad at him.  She'd yell at him and say she couldn't go anywhere without her keys, and how forgetful he was to not bring her keys back.

Fast forward to now where Uncle Albert has questionable driving skills.  He's 87 -- he's fine driving--can get around, a very experienced driver but got lost once and worried everyone.  Our families took away his keys.  He called me one day to ask if I can get his car key back because he can't get around. Its so hard. What will happen to me 20 years from now, will my kids take away my car keys and tell some lie?
