No Power for 4 Days

Seems like an eternity, but 4 days is not that long. No flooding damage. We always get seepage up from the ground in the basement, so had the usual water seep. Nothing like my neighbors across the street who had a couple of inches in their basement. We were lucky.

Sat on my beautiful maroon velvet daybed by the moonlight (slight moonlight) and read. Funny, when you look at the sky without electric lights to interfere, everything seems different at night. Enjoyed the purple eggplant hue of they sky with the brown outlines of the trees seeping through. When I told this to Gary, he asked me what color the sky usually looks like and I really couldn't answer him--no words to describe what color the sky usually is, so I said "regular".. . David and I sat on our stoop and watched the stars-yes they exist and there are many.

We were forced to talk to each other (no we did not break out Scrabble or board games). Have a gas stove and gas water heater, so we really didn't suffer as much as others did. Was painful to throw away a freezer full of food--cooked up a storm as meat defrosted and gained 2.3 pounds. Ate breakfast, lunch and dinner by 12 noon on Sunday, August 28th. Am now forced to wipe down my freezer--its eerily empty, but just goes to show how much excess we keep (except the needed dumplings and noodles).

This story doesn't come to an end. Lots of people still have no power and have ruined homes. During the power outage it seemed like an eternity but when looking back now it was a blink of an eye. I had power for 361 days.
