Rock Bar, 3.30.10

Arrived in Bali on Monday 3.29 and my friend Kate missed her flight. She arrived at 10pm, I was fast asleep. Next morning, we couldn't wait to jump out on the balcony to see the ocean. Only 1 problem, we locked ourselves out at 7:15am--no one in sight. Help help, here comes a Japanese lady jogging. HELLO, HELLO..........she smiles and waves back. ok, help, help. after 10 minutes a worker walks by and we humilate ourselves in our bathrobes, telling him we've locked ourselves out. Help is on the way.

Fast forward to dinner-we go to the beautiful Seafood restaurant, set in the cliffs. it is so far down, you need to take a trolley down the hill. Its pouring rain and we have the big resort umbrellas, nothing can stop us now through the lightening and big rain and steep cliffs, don't fall.

Our dinner is great through a torrential rain. You choose your own seafood and they cook it fo ryou - I have gigantic prawns and a whole white snapper (the red snappers have cloudy eyes). We smile as the famous Rock Bar re-opens after the storm, just as we are leaving the restaurant.

Did you ever go to Windows on the World for a special occasion? Well the Rock Bar is like a "special occasion place" - famous bar, set in the cliffs, designed by the same architect as Nobu (see description below). We are the second ones there--an empty bar, music blaring, no rain but the waves are crashing over the bar and the waitresses squeal as they get all wet. What a special night--to have a landmark bar all to ourselves (& three Japanese tourists and another bunch of Germans). We open our umbrella when we see a big wave come in as we know it'll crash over our heads. What a memory.

The Rock Bar[ Bar ]Located on natural rocks 14 meters above the Indian Ocean at the base of AYANA's towering cliffs, this innovative open-top bar is Bali's most glam sunset and after-dark destination. Soak up the chic ambience and superstar views as the rhythm of the ocean merges with the funky tunes vibing from the DJ booth carved into the cliff-face. You couldn't get any closer to the sunset without setting sail
