July 4, 2009

I grew up in NYC, which means you don't go out live and watch the fireworks. Crowds, too many people. We New Yorkers don't like crowds. (Although I did do it once, walking around on the East Side Drive was weird).

Imagine my delight at the small town celebrations of July 4th. Families big and small came out to watch the New Providence fireworks. Chairs in hand, streams of people walking towards South St. to see the fireworks. "It's what everyone does, I did it as a child with my family and I do it now" a friends told me.

Even better, while I was playing tennis @ Memorial Field in Summit, the children had a bike parade. Bikes decorated in red, white and blue, there they were with the music blaring. Round and round with their parents as if walking around the center ring in a circus. Warmed my heart.

This year I'm going to Mount Carmel! Staying up to watch the fireworks.
