Rio Sheraton Resort & Hotel, Leblon

I'm not sure I would recommend this hotel.............its kind of old. My first impression of this hotel was the toilet wouldn't stop flushing despite many many jiggles to the "handle" in the wall. Despite the "oldness" or no frills standard of a Sheraton the sound of the crashing waves against the sand was worth it all. Spectacular. Ocean view and view of Leblon Beach was worthwhile as well. My room had two double beds on the 3rd floor (below lobby which is 6). The pool (outdoor) had both families and working people but was big enough for all. There was also a huge gym with several classes. The hotel operates a shuttle bus to Ipanema and Copacabana--which is the better place to stay (right along the beach) but this was just fine. I was here during a marathon........and, as my cab driver said, "people walking in the street with flags and they are gay...."----Gay parade, caused minor traffic disruptions. This is a very big hotel--two big conventions while I was here + tons of tourists. All in all not bad.........free internet in the lobby for 1/2 hr a day.
