Forgot to mention the numerous world records we saw, but one in particular stands out. Kitajiwa from Japan won a GOLD and set a world record by 2 seconds in the 100 meter breast stroke. This happened on the first day, same day Phelps won his first gold. They announce and post on the board who the current world and Olympic record holders are & often they say, "Swimming in Lane 4 is the current World Record Holders....". Ofcourse I watch them to see if they will win, and this time he did. Incredible.
The women freestyle 400 meter winner came in at just over 4 minutes. This means one minute per 100 meter (100 meter = 2 laps, back and forth). If I go swimming today, I'm going to clock my time (not that the Berkeley Heights pool is Olympic size, but I'm curious).
On the second night we walked through the pouring rain with these ridulous poncho's and no umbrella. I laughed hysterically because everyone looked so silly (grown adults in orange poncho's - ours were clear and flimsy).
Even though we were wet I turned back to look at the Water Cube, all lit up in magnificent colors and thought how beautiful it was. Even in a downpour my heart was soaring with excitement as we walked toward the gymnasium. The other magnificent structure in the rain was the bird's nest.
See my pix, we giggled as we correctly positioned ourselves to do the torch shot - you can imagine David doing this. He also barged in on a TV Azteca interview with the fuwa (mascots).
Back to reality.

I can just imagine you guys trying to get that picture of you holding the torch. LOL They're not easy to get, and I know from experience how determined you can be to make sure it comes out just right! Although, I don't think I ever came close to barging into a TV reporter while doing it. But I bet it was worth it, right? Leave it to you guys! :)
you're absolutely right! Move right, move two feet left... The shame of it is, I have a better picture, one more perfectly matched, but in the haste of uploading so many photo's, I just took this one (fat arms and all!)
